Making Jesus Your Focus
In order to be a true disciple of Jesus, you must think rightly about His nature and His work, then respond appropriately to His call.
His Nature:
- He is with God. (John 1:1-3)
- He is God.
- He is before creation.
- He is the Creator.
- He is the perfect Man. (John 1:14)
- He is the Savior. (John 12:46-48)
- He is Judge.
- He is the Son of God. (Matt. 16:16)
- He has all authority. (Matt. 28:18)
- He is the head of the church. (Col. 1:18)
- He is preeminent.
His Work:
- Sacrifice (John 1:29, 3:16, 10:11; Matt. 26:27-28; Php. 2:5-11)
- Propitiation / Atonement (1 John 2:2)
- Reconciliation (2 Cor. 5:17-21; Rom. 5:6-11)
- Resurrection (Acts 17:30-31)
- Judgment
His Call:
- Follow in the Steps of His Work (1 Pet. 2:21; “archegos” in Heb. 2:10, 12:2)
- Self-Denial / Repentance (Matt. 16:24; Ac. 17:30)
- Union with His Work and Words (Matt. 28:19-20; Rom. 6:3-5)
- Eternal Life (Jn. 6:66-69, 12:50)
You can be confident in your salvation when Jesus is your life. (Col. 3:1-4)
