IMPACT: We Were Made for More
There is no doubt that God has blessed each and every one of us with a
unique set of talents and abilities that we can use to make an impact on
the church. No matter our age, background, or how long we have been
here, each of us has an opportunity to make a difference. The impact we
make within the church does not stop with its members. It ripples
outward and has the potential to affect the lives of others as well.
The Root of Our Impact: In Matthew 22:37–39, Jesus discusses the
greatest commandments: to love the Lord our God with all our heart,
soul, and mind, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Our love for God
should be the root of the impact we make within the church and
throughout our lives. When we love Him with everything we have, that
love should motivate us to share His love with others and develop a heart
for serving those around us. Before we can truly understand the impact
we are called to make, we must first understand what it means to love
God.
Impact Through Love: One of the greatest gifts we have been given is
the unconditional love of God. God loves His creation and made a way for
us to have a relationship with Him through Jesus. His love has made an
eternal impact on our lives, and we have the opportunity to reflect that
love to others.
When we love like Jesus, we begin to care about others rather than
focusing only on ourselves. We recognize the value of each person,
extend grace, and choose to love even when it is difficult. If we want to
make an impact, we must be willing to love the people God has placed
around us.
Impact Through Service: One way we demonstrate God’s love is
through service. Each of us has opportunities to serve, especially within
the church. We do not have to hold an official position or have a formal
title to make a difference. Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from
small acts of service that make the congregation a better place.
It might mean encouraging someone who is struggling, helping a family
feel welcome, supporting a ministry, or giving our time to meet a need.
When we look for opportunities to serve instead of waiting for someone
else to step in, we create a culture where people can see and experience
the love of Christ.
Impact Through Mentorship: One of the most meaningful ways we can
make an impact is by investing in the next generation. Throughout
Scripture, we are reminded of the importance of teaching God’s Word and
sharing our faith with those who come after us.
We may never know how a conversation, a kind word, a Bible lesson, or a
consistent example of faith will influence someone else’s life. But when we
invest in others, we help create opportunities for faith to grow.
We were made for more than living for ourselves. God calls us to love
Him, love our neighbors, serve those around us, and invest in the next
generation. Each of us has something to contribute, and each of us has
an opportunity to make an impact. The question is not whether we have
the ability to make a difference, but how we will use the opportunities
God has placed in front of us.
