The Father’s House

The Father’s House

The Father’s House

John 14:1-6

Our congregational theme this year is entitled, “Unshakable Promises.” In a world where so much is uncertain, God’s promises are certain. God’s promises are unshakable because they are rooted in the very character of God: He is unchanging, faithful, powerful, and incapable of lying. When God makes a promise, it’s guaranteed to be fulfilled. On this Father’s Day of 2026 I want to speak about one of God’s greatest promises – the promise of heaven. What we call heaven; Jesus called the Father’s house. On the final night of His earthly life while in the Upper Room with His disciples gathered around Him, Jesus made one of the most extraordinary promises found in scripture.

Heaven means Believing in a Person.

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me” (John 14:1).

Heaven Means Believing in a Place.

“In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2).

Heaven Means Believing in a Promise.

“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also” (John 14:3).

Heaven Means Believing in a Plan.

“And you know the way to where I am going.” Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:4-6).

Christians are given one of the greatest promises anyone can be given and that is the promise of an eternal home with Jesus in the Father’s house. In the meantime, God wants us to live our lives down here, and one of our goals ought to be not only to go to heaven, but to take as many people with us as we can. If you really believe it’s true, if you believe what we’ve read and studied today, tell somebody about it.

Someone has well said, “Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.” Are you prepared? Are you ready?
